Good Desktop Build?

I tried to set-up a remote desktop connection between my two Home Edition computers, but it wouldn't work, the remote connection options never appeared. maybe that's because one's on Win7 and the other is on WinXP. Anyway, what are the big differences between the i5-3450 and the i5-2400?

Windows XP Home doesn't have Remote Desktop, but Windows 7 Home does I'm 99% certain. Anyway, I use Pro and it's a nice OS, so it may be worth getting Pro.

The 3450 is a newer chip. Has a smaller die (22nm vs 32nm) and uses the Ivy Bridge architecture, whereas the 2400 is older and uses the Sandy Bridge architecture. Performance wise they're very similar, I'd just go for whichever is cheaper.

Alright, isn't there a Win7Home to Win7Pro upgrade disk? If so, I'll probably just get the Home edition and upgrade it later when I have the extra cash. And if the i5-2400 is just as good performance wise, I'll go with it to save a few bucks. I can't begin to explain how helpful you've been Vista, I really appreciate all the suggestions, advice and general help you've given me on multiple occasions.

Yeah you can use Windows Anytime Upgrade. You install Home, then later on type in the product key for Pro, and then it 'turns into' Windows Pro and you don't need to reinstall or anything. :)

Yeah I'm trying to find you some benchmarks but I remember seeing the 2500K vs 3570K and the 2600K vs 3770K benchmarks and there was hardly any difference at all between Sandy and Ivy. I'd say if the 2400 is considerably cheaper, go for it. How much more expensive is the 3450?

Thanks. :) No problem at all, happy to help you any time mate! Friendship request accepted. :D

If it's only 10 bucks I'd say go for 3450, unless you really want to spend the 10 bucks elsewhere.
