Good Enough?

Ok. These are my important specs for my new computer that I will get right after Christmas. I'm going to be getting (at least I'm pretty sure) a DFI LAN Party mobo. What type of memory do you guys recommend? I know DDR 400 PC 3200, but like what brand and what models? I want to get 2 gigs of memory if that can be solved within 280 bucks.
 
Haha... sorry guys you guys must have been looking at my signature with Intel based components... so sorry! After reading many reviews and asking friends I decided to switch to AMD and I had to go with a different motherboard and everything. I'm going to be going with the X2 4600+... thats why I was asking for only DDR400 types.

Or yo can get an XMS which is around $130 for 1GB.
 
DDR400 is the fastest speed AMD supports but you can put faster in, as long as it is DDR not DDR2
 
ok heres how it works: it needs 184pins. thats the only real specification for the board being able to run it.
you can put DDR600 (max for ddr) in it and it will run as DDR400. however, if you arent overclocking i would suggest going with lower latency, and if you are overclocking then get ddr433 or higher.
DDR400 cas latency: 2 is your best bet. preferably CorsairXMS or Crucial Ballistix sounds good... though ive had no experience with it.
 
also, latency can be exchanged for frequency... however with hypertransport there isnt much of a need...
also, dont get the 4600+... the extra 200mhz is only a tiny bit better than the larger cache that the 4400+ offers, plus you can change frequency.. you cant change cache size. also, the 4400+ is cheaper.
 
So your saying that the 4400+ is better? So if I went and got the highest DDR memory out there it wouldn't make much of a difference? I will be overclocking once my computer shows the slightest sign of lagging... but for now it should be pretty fast. Also, should I pay the difference between teh 4400+ and the 4800+?

I'll have to check out the crucial ballistix... I've heard they are pretty good
