Hey guys,

As some of you have seen, I recently purchased a Thrustmaster HOTAS and I was wondering what do you guys think the best flight simulator is? I want to get one for my dad to try, as I'm playing Elite Dangerous already.

Thanks for your input!

Are you looking for civilian flight simulators? Or something that goes along the lines of PewPewPew flight sims?

Well my dad works on GPS on commercial flights, so mostly civilian, but if it has pew pew pew in it it's ok. Maybe a civilian and military without the pew pew pew? Just flying?

FSX:Steam Edition is probably the one to get if you're interested in the bajillion payware addons it has. The new X-Plane is still in beta? You could also check out Lockheed Martin's Prepare3d, which seems like a heavily modified FSX.

For an advanced and as real as it gets, look at FSX and buy the PMDG 737NGX. Boeing teamed up with PMDG to make the model. You will need to learn how to operate ALL of the instruments including FMC. Know how to read SIDs and STARs, etc. Once you obtain several hours in the aircraft become proficient, move on to the multiplayer environment VATSIM where you're knowledge in air traffic control commands, etc will be tested.

There is also a really good A-10 simulator that would match that thustmaster very well. This too is very sophisticated. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/warthog/

I never played that particular sim so I can't vouch for it, but I heard good things about it.

Next purchase should be a TrackIR5.

Just in case. This website has SID and STARs available for download. http://flightaware.com/ This website has aeronautical charts. https://skyvector.com/ PMDG also sells the huge manuals.

Here's a review of the 737NGX.

I own multiple modules in DCS. It's great if you're interested in that kinda stuff.... military flight sim.

For the most part DCS is pretty good. But it definitely has the $1B pricetag to grab the addons.
FSX is worse. lol The PMDG addon for the 737 Agent Smith mentioned is not cheap. Their 777 addon is like $90.

Track IR is a great addition, but it's super expensive for what it is. Try to snipe one off ebay for a used one.
