Hey I'm need some help. I'm building my first tower and i'm not sure if the stuff I found is good. It's pretty inexpensive, screen more expensive than most of the stuff. It's a little more than $650 total.

-Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Processor
-Intel DG35EC Motherboard
-XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Fatal1ty Card
-Corsair XMS2 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM
-Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy SE 70SB057000001 Sound Card
-LiteOn IHAS324 Internal DVD Writer
-Masscool 8W553 Socket 775 Aluminum CPU Cooling Fan
-Masscool 120mm Sleeve Bearing Case Fan
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB Hard Drive
-DiabloTek PHD550 550-Watt Power Supply

Also, I'm gonna get Ubuntu as my OS and a 20" monitor

Any advice or input would be appreciated. Oh, but if you think I should replace something, make sure the total price doesn't go over $700.

Thanks,

CPU/MOBO look alright

As for the RAM - Nice touch on the Corsair part :) Also, you should be aware not to cross match MHz freq. with other sticks of RAM/mobo req. That's a no no. If the mobo says "800MHz" then don't put anything else besides an 800MHz stick. Your computer would be at high risk if you put anything higher or lower MHz freq.

For the GPU - It depends on what you're going to play/how well you want the quality and over all gaming experience, maybe look into getting a higher model such as 9800? Just a thought. I don't really know how well XFX version is. But the Geforce part is a nice touch :)

For the DVD ROM - I think that LiteOn would be a adequate - I personally like Samsung better - They have nice prices on their DVD ROM's too. (CHEAP)

As for the Hard Drive, I would highly recommend Western Digital. Not Seagate. WD will pretty much last forever, they have amazing products at pretty good prices, so I wouldn't skimp on the brand of hard drive if you're just going for cheap price, because you could lose data and may not be able to recover it. So Western Digital is a no brainer.

As for the PSU (Power supply), I would defiantly not skimp on brand or wattage volume. If the PSU has issues, your whole rig is at risk and that could mean fried components. So I'd try to aim for maybe a better known brand (I haven't really heard much about diablo trek) and aim for a higher wattage, I would recommend you a min. of 600W. Anywhere from 600-850W should be fine for you.

I would go for AMD Phenom II x3 720BE instead.
If you want to stick with intel, get another motherboard. I recommend asus/ gigabyte P45 chipset mobo.
