Good idea to turn netbook into a desktop?

I have an acer aspire one 9inch netbook, with half of my keyboard not working. Since it has a vga port, I am planning to turn it into a desktop computer. Only downside is that I'd need to open it to turn it on (not a big deal for me whatsoever.) So my plan is to get a usb dock, to have a usb mouse and keyboard, external hard drive, and some extra slots for other things. It is currently running ubuntu 10.04 and has 1gb of ram and 160gb hdd. I would be getting a 19 inch monitor with 1920x1080 resolution. Would this be a good idea? Has anyone tried something like this?

I have and still do. Asus Eee the grand children use. Hooked up to a 40" tv (sony) and wireless keyboard and mouse. They play simple games. Have a 19" also that works well. Cheap one will work fine. they are not fast anyway. Be a lot faster with cat cable and not wireless.

I have a similar setup for my wife with an Asus eeePC with external monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers. Works great for her.

At one time Acer used to sell a desktop version of the Acer Aspire One, not sure if they still do.
