Good laptop and price?

Price looks okay, I am not really sure what computers run for over there but 800 seems fair for a 4th gen i7 quad core and a dedicated card. My only advice to you is that Hp typically does not have a good reputation on the forum here for reliability. If you where to scroll through the laptop section you will notice we have more users come on here complaining about failing hardware on Hp notebooks then any other brand.

If I may ask is your intention gaming? I only ask since the Nvidia 740 GT is a decent card but you may not be able to set all games (especially FPS) to high setting and within the next year or two most games will struggle on that card. If you are planning to game at least a 750 GT is what you should be looking at, the only thing I would consider the 740 GT good for is to use some good video editing software that may rely on some CUDA cores.

Give us some info so can maybe help you find exactly what your looking for.

Im thinking of getting a new laptop soon, this one seems to be the best i can find for the money. Do you think its a good spec and price?

the price looks very good for the specs it has maybe a little bad point on the screen being only 1366 x 768 resolution, normally 1600x900 or 1920x1080. personally as i always recommend you could build a better gaming desktop for that price and save yourself from the flames coming out of the heat sink.

laptops are good little machines for gaming, a desktop of that price would beat it though. laptops too get very hot due to their compactness, i used to get 80c on my old lenovo z580 which was a pretty thick well air ventillated laptop. can certainly feel the 80c coming out the exhaust.

whereas my pc on stock settings maxed out 100% on each core in prime 95 will reach maybe 48-50c on overclock of 4.5ghz will touch just under 69c which is fine for ivy bridge i7s as they get hotter than most cpus hense the 105c safety cut off. prime95 is more that any pc will run on, overclocked max ive used is to 55c on battlefield 4 ultra settings for a good hour.

An actual gaming laptop should not be getting that hot, maybe a non gaming laptop would get that hot while gaming but not a laptop built for gaming.

Yes desktop will always be superior for gaming but the real question is what is the persons using the machine for? A few years back I was always traveling and was never home, so yes I would save money and have a superior machine with a desktop but I would have never been able to use it. In my case a gaming laptop would have been far superior.

true, id agree there it does depend what you can and cant do, in regards like you say if your going from house to house or traveling etc. i had a gaming laptop with 2gb nvidia card, 8gb ram, dual core i5 and that got pretty hot. one of the reasons why i sold it.

HP Envy 15-j024ea TouchSmart Intel® Core™ i7 Processor, 8Gb RAM, 1Tb Hard Drive, 15.6 inch Touch Screen Notebook - Silver is top of the line. Price is just right for its specs. However my only concern is about the brand. I got HP before which I used for my work. It didnt last long. So first I want to ask you if you will use this for your work or just simply to have a laptop for social networking, a little gaming and light stuff only. If you will use it for your work, i suggest you look for other brand with similar specs which offer durability. Otherwise, you can stick on this one.
