Good Multiplayer Shooter

I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on a good shooter game out currently that has a good multiplayer system. I'd like something along the lines of what Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield had to offer, just more up to date. Also, I need something with not so harsh system requirements. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo (T7200 2.0GHz) 1Gb RAM, and Ati Radeon X1400 256mb. So something that would run smooth on the system.

A pair of the best looking while not being too demanding are Half Life 2 and FEAR. Both were released in 2005. Far Cry and Counter Strike: Source are also popular.

lost planet
gear of war

both r amazing on multi game on 360.

Pretty hard to play XBOX360 games on a laptop.

On a side note, Gears of Wars is supposed to be available for the PC later on, too. Probably only for Vista, though.

Yeah, the specs are for a laptop (Inspiron 1505). It looks like I can run FEAR with minimum requirements and even on the recommended the only thing that fails is that it requires something like a 3GHz processor. If that's the case then why is the bar so far away from recommended? http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/media/srl/graph_all_3.gif

FEAR is the game I was leaning towards but I don't want to have to play it on the low res specs to have decent performance, and Sys Requirements Lab doesn't have CounterStrike listed, so I'm not sure about that.

And for HalfLife 2 are there still a lot of people playing online?

Deathmatch at this exact moment has 82 servers, so it has quite a few people. Ive never played rainbow six so Im not sure what your looking for, but I suggest HALO, not to old but not to new and tons of people are alwase on (at least 100 something servers). And with the release of vista, halo 2 will most likely be the best game for multiplayer, it was for xbox live.

BTW, you can get the multiplayer of FEAR for free (yes, legally). Ive played it and its pritty fun.

One last game I like is Call Of Duty, but I havnt played COD2.

cod2 was a great game, and don't worry about the 3ghz processor thing with FEAR thats core speed and it's not that important your core 2 duo is more than enough for FEAR

Counter-strike is a good game and I find the source engine games(half-life 2 counter-strike source so on...)run very smooth even on somewhat low grade systems

so I would recommend FEAR, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike:source, Call of Duty 2, or Battlefield(2 or 2142)

There are some looking for Metal of Honor: Pacific Assault or Allied Assault for online gaming. That's one game you won't have to worry about taxing anything. That model card supports upto 6x antiliasing and 16x antisotropic filtering. You shouldn't have problems running any of these games with no ocing involved.

MEDAL Of HONOR ALLIED ASSAULT BREAKTHROUGH!!!!!!!!!:D

And CS too

these are the most popular

When searching for free online games the majority of them look like cartoons unfortunately. But you can easily download demos for the various multiplayer games to give them a look. One disappointment was seeing HL2 EP2 priced for twices as much as EP1 was. http://pcgames.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/11001/title/Half-Life_2_Console_Contents.html

I'll wait for the full download later. The addon won't have a price tag! :D

Actually, after seeing the previews for tf2 I think that the price of the first one may be worth it to me I might pick it up

I'll have to fire up Steam later to see if EP2 is ready to install. I waited a few months after giving a copy of EP1 to someone to see that downloaded. But either addon episode there is mainly single not multiplayer.
