Ive heard that windows is very unstable and that mac is, correct me if im wrong. What is a good operating system that doesnt take much to keep stable?

I wouldnt say that Windows is very unstable, sure it has a few flaws, but i think its a terrific operating system. Mac is said to be more secure in terms of getting viruses or spyware, but thats mainly because there arent as many viruses written for Macs.

Windows supports alot more programs/games than Mac and Linux do, so if you plan on using many programs your best bet is to stick with Windows.

thats true if all u want to do is surf the net and have a very secure comp ide go with mac or preferubily linux b/c mac comps are kinda expensive although my friend sucessfully instaled mac osx on a dell.

Yeah...Apple just released a program (called Boot Camp) that will allow you to dual-boot OS X and windows on a Mac. If you want to dual-boot OS X on a PC with Windows, it can be done, although it requires a little more knowledge. I've been trying to do it.....but things keep going wrong. But that's probably just me. But anyway, it can be done fairly easily.

I would recomend windows just be careful what sites you go on and it is stable. If you feel like haveing some fun then try partitioning linux and windows. Not manye games on linux that I know of so windows would be the way to go.

As long as its XP, it is very stable, you can only get virues if you look at porn sites, download things yourself that uyou dont know have virues in the, or though p2p.

As long as your not a gamer, or have some MUST have programs that you want that will only run on windows, i would highly suggest Linux, forget mac, IMO They crash more often then not, i heard there new OS is better though, but still a PC is cheaper then a MAC, and the OS itself is free,

I suggest ubuntu.

Not True! I have gotten some crazy viruses without downloading anything, rare, but possible.

XP is only good because so many people have it, so there a lot of programs out for it. I prefer linux because of security, and simplicity.

If you're safe, and have a decent anti- virus/spyware/adware appliction you are good to go. I mean, I'm running Windows 2000 with only Microsoft Anti-Spyware and I have never had a virus or spyware attack *knocks on wood*

Just depends on your attitude towards your computer.

The title is Good Operating System right.

So get Window's Xp Pro Edition. I am planning on getting it. Find it on google its the good spot to check for prices. Also if they show what kind of requirement they have. Read it and see does it match your computer before you buy it.

i use winxp pro and love it. it's quite stable actually, just make sure you have an up-to-date antivirus software (anti spyware progs help too, just make sure you get good ones, as there are fake ones that are spyware in themselves. try lavasoft's ad-aware SE and 'spybot: search and destroy'. they work great).

I use windows xp pro and i love it, as thebeginning said it is quite stable.
Also i like AVG and ad-aware and windows defender in beta.

I'm going to be re-formatting my hard drive soon (If I can find my motherboard drivers... ) and I will be using Windows XP Pro.

2 questions for you guys:

1.) If I cannot find my motherboard drivers, can I just download them form the internet? I'm talking all the drivers not just "updating" ones.
2.) Is it legal to put XP on the computer and "recycle" and use it on my next one? (whenever that will be:rolleyes: )

i dont think that is legal actually. not sure though. also not sure about the first question, have you checked your mobo manufacturer's website?
