Good pc in general?

Well first off welcome.

To be quite honest I wouldn't trust buying a computer off of ebay, but that is just me. But if you look at the "specs" of the computer, the only real specs that they give you is the processor. Ok so it has 1GB of ram, what cheapo value ram? 128MB of video ram, so what you can get one of those for $20, what gpu is it. What kind of ram is it, what brand and model is the motherboard. They just don't give you enough information to determine what is in the computer. It just seems fishy and I can guarentee you that at least most of that stuff that is in that comp is cheapo generic crap that will die withing 6 months. Invest the money in a better quality computer, like a dell *shudders* but honestly it comes for a reputable company, you know what you are getting in the computer. It really is a much better option.

Still the best option is building one yourself. :D

I hate to break it to ya, but it does sort of tell you what motherboard and type of ram.....

PC Chips A33G Motherboard *NEW Socket AM2*

1GB (1024MB) DDR2 RAM
PC5400 / 667MHz / 240-Pin

but yeah. no ram brand

Heh, missed the motherboard brand, still pc chips is crap generic mobo's, I would still advise staying away.

Trust me dude, you're buying a big piece of shit..you're better off just building your own computer and spending a couple hundred extra to get quality stuff.Or atleast go to Futureshop or something and buy their computers...that way you can have some sort of trust with a company as big as them y'know? Not the trust of some guy who probably is trying to rip you off.

Exactly. If you want to buy a pre-built computer go with a big name, that you will at least of some sort of technical support with.

Again they don't say the brand or make of ANY of the components. They could be cheap crap but you wouldn't know. It also has poor quality integrated graphics. $818 is definately a rip off in my opinion. Build your own, we'll all help you out and search for components so you won't have to worry. If you have any concerns just ask, thats what this forum is all about :D

What's good about it:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Processor
160GB Hard Disk Drive
BLACK Neon Light & Side-Window Case with 500W Power Supply / Front USB
16X DVD/RW Dual Layer Burner Disk Drive

What is bad about it:

128MB Onboard 3D Graphics
PC5400 / 667MHz / 240-Pin
AMD Approved Processor Heatsink & Fan
OEM Keyboard / Mouse / Speakers Set
No Operating System Included
PC Chips A33G Motherboard

It isn't that bad of a computer for $600....but I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm with H-bomb on this one, not a horrible computer, but we can help you pick out components for a pretty sweet semi-budget pc. What is your actual budget anyway. And for what, the comp. obviously but do you need like keyboard and mouse, speakers, a monitor mayber?

I already have the monitor, mouse, keyboard and an ATI 256 radeon 9800 pro. The MOST I would be willing to spend would be $750 after tax. I have some components from my current computer (a 3 year old emachine) but I'm going to guess that they are obsolete and would rather just do new everything besides the video card.
Another off topic question...would an athalon 64 4000 be better than an athalon x2 3800. I'm still new to understanding processors and such. Again thanks for all the help guys, this is great!

I'm guessin that your 9800 pro is like agp 8x? And that you are satisfied with its performance, so $750 without a video card, we can do that no problem, the only thing is I think that takes conroe out of the picture don't think they have any agp boards. Oh well the x2 3800+ would be better then the 4000+. The 3800+ x2, while it has lower clock speeds, it is a dual core processor, for the most part its almost like having two cpu's in your computer, excellent for multi-tasking. The 4000+ however has more raw speed, will beat the 3800+ in certain tasks, mainly ones that don't put a huge load on the cpu, I would go with the 3800+ x2 out of those processors though.

i would go with a core2duo for gaming and 2gb of ram

And maybe a 7950GX2, of course Core 2 Duo and 2GB of ram would be better for gaming but his budget might not allow.

If you could fit in the Core 2 Duo now it would be a good idea. Then later down the road when you have some more cash, you could upgrade to another GB of RAM.

I don't think hes looking for a gaming pc and he expressed an interested in the X2 3800 so thats what i facilitated. Also, a conroe build would be pointless if hes going to use his 9800 agp card. Already this is turning into another "build me a monster pc" when that isn't at all what this guy asked for.

If he is using his GPU, then why did you leave the price at $480ish. You could get atleast another GB of RAM with the leftover money.

True but take into account that he provided a link to a rip off $818 pc. He assumed that that was a reasonable price and so set his budget high. I just wanted to show that he doesn't need to spend that much to get the pc he was looking at. Obviously he could go further but even with another gig of ram its still just a Radeon 9800. Unless hes willing to change his graphics card its not worth him forking out any more cash than he has to.

Haha that Wal Mart, $818 computer is an AMD X2 and they have the AMD FX pictured.

I would upgrade the GPU since it will be much better for gaming.
