good proccesor?

Well for gaming you will want to check out AMD
But it all depends on your budget. The X2 series is very good, but so are the Athlon 64s, if you cannot afford a dual core system

Im going into this blind Im an expert when it comes to software but when it comes to mixing and matching hardware I come up short.

Well the Opteron 144 is a good processor, there is also the Athlon 64 3200, both for under $200

Or if you could spare $5, I would go with the Athlon 64 3500.

The X2 series is very good for all computer aspects, however they are a little over budget, starting with the 3800 at $297

But for just gaming, the Athlon 64 3700 is an excellent choice, far superior to the 3500 for only $33 more

But if you absolutely have to be at $200, then get the Athlon 64 3500

For gaming, generally AMD.

But if you wanted a dual core processor, Intel offers them cheaper. However, AMD's dual core processors easily whoop Intel's dual core processors in every aspect.

Definitely not for gaming. What model intel are you looking at?

The AMD Athlon 64 3700 kills the Intel Pentium D 820 in Doom III @ 1280 by 10fps, @1024 by 20fps, the AMD wins in UT2004 by almot 50fps, and in Quake III team arena by 50fps

Games really don't take advantage of 2 cores
