so the 3700 is the way to go for me? maybe the 3800 if I can pull it off
Well the 3800 really isn't much of an improvement over the 3700. If this computer is ONLY for gaming, then the 3700 is fine. But if you plan to be doing much of anything else, the X2 3800 is a very good investment. I do realise that it is considerably above your budget, but at least think about it.

what do you mean by anything else? like office work?

Ill be doing my email and what not through my laptop, and probably use this for gaming and handeling video and hard core number crunching like that, nthen alil internet

Well the X2 3800 is a far superior processor, but the advantage is zero in gaming, at least for right now. Games are only single threaded applications (most, anyway) whereas when you are doing other things, Windows will send different thread into different cores.

It is your choice. I highly recommend the X2 3800, but if you cannot afford it, then the 3700 is the next best.

yea dual core. "number crunching"
what do you mean by number crunching?
sounds like dual core would be effective if you ask me.
but yea, the dual core would be good for Quake 4 (one of my favorite games)
ok... so you've got the 3700+ or the X2 3800+
of course, we can't settle that until you've got all the other components lined up now can we? maybe we can help you save some money on other components that way you can spend more on the processor; how about it?

I play BF2 alot right now, why would I need duel core its not liek Ime going to be runing office programs and games at the same time

ya that would be nice, but I need to figure out what procesor so I can figure out what mother board Im getting
Most motherboards support both the A64 and the X2.

why would I need duel cores tho? Im not that hard core, I mean it sounds like the a64 will getrdone for me
The Athlon 64 3700+ is a great cpu, especially for gaming. But for $60 you can get a dual-core, which is much better at multi-tasking, as well as some current and future games.

ok so heres what Im going to do Im going to go with the a 64 because I dont multi task when gaming, and if I need to I will put in a duel core.
