Good racing game for PC

I just saw the Steam weekend deal, and was curious as to what the top racing games are for PC. I played the GRID demo and enjoyed it, but I don't know how it compares to the other ones out there. If it's a cheap game I'll consider it, I'm just looking for games to take a break from all my shooter and RPG games.
 
How is it in terms of longevity, either GRID or GTR? From the GRID demo, I was only able to try 3 races, and only one of them was an actual race. Any good racing games where you can upgrade your car as you progress through the game?

I agree, the graphics in GRID are fantastic, but I wasn't a huge fan of the skid combo modes, where you had to rack up combo points from skidding to beat the stage. Probably because I couldn't beat it :P

GTR is pretty lengthy and there are mods available as well. Graphics aren't as good as GRID but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Oh and did I mention, Nurburgring Nordschleife? :P

I have never heard of that. I'm not really a racing enthusiast, I just want a fun driving game for when I get bored of my other ones. Haha, I'm only considering buying one because of the Steam sale.
 
I have GRID and love it. Some people say the controls are funky but personally, I dont play racing sims so I didnt notice anything weird. Besides, I was under the impression that the game is not meant to be a sim.

I'd say the price is great and if you enjoyed the demo, jump on that deal.
 
It really depends if you want a realistic or arcade game

Arcade - All NFS series except maybe Shift

Edit: You should really get a Logitech g25 to feel the real experience. Controllers just dont do the justice
 
Have you tried Juiced2? The graphics are so awesomeee! you can see the reflections and stuff. Unfortunately my laptop (Nvidia 9300, core2duo 2.4ghz cant run it even at lowest settings :(
