G'day All.
I Am Looking Into Making An Old Computer I Have Better And I Went To A Local Computer Store And They Have This DIY Upgrade Package:

XP2500+ AMD CPU & Fan
MSI Mainboard 8x AGP
256mb PC3200 DDR Ram

For $395 AUD - Which Equals $298 USD

Is This Good Value And Is The CPU And Mainboard Good? Or Crap? I Know Nothing About AMD I Know The Ram Amount Is Crap But I Would Get More Of That Seperatley.

So What Do You Think?

Waste Of Money?

Or Good Value?

Cheers.

Its not a good deal, you can get an AMD Sempron 2800+ for $80, 8x AGP Mobo S.754 for $50, and 512MB PC3200 RAM for $35. Which comes to a total of $165, and those parts are new and better then the ones you posted above.

I agree, it's FAR to expensive, and the components are outdated anyway.

Try www.staticice.com.au, it's a site which lists the best prices of computer components in Australia.

If you post your budget and purpose here, i'm sure there will be people willing to set you on the right track.

This looks like a good deal

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU
256MB DDR333 PC2700 Memory (Upgrade to 512 for $20 CDN)
ECS KM400-2 Mother Board
Brand Named 40GB 7200RPM 2MB Cache
Sony 52x CD ROM (Upgrade to DVD RW for $27 CDN)
Deluxe ATX Case
400 Watt Power Supply

Works out to be $222 U.S.

Well, it's cheap, and would be great for Office and Internet use, but it certainly wouldn't work with any of the latest games.

Also, the postage cost to Australia might be more than it's worth. Can't really say whether or not it would suit until we get some idea of the budget and purpose.

Also, are you looking for an entire PC, since your initial post was referring to an upgrade kit of just a mobo, CPU and RAM.

What I Have Is:

A Case
Power Supply
1 CD Burner
1 DVD Burner
1 40gb HDD
1 Floppy Drive
1 Sound Card

So I Think I Just Need

MotherBoard
CPU
Ram
Video Card

My Friend Told Me TOday Thats Pretty Much All I Need
