Good Video Card?

whats your price range?

If you want a top-of-the-line card, then the 7900GT/X or x1900XT/X would be a good choice.

lets try 100-200 first if I have to go up then so be it

you're not gonna find a 512 card for 200 bucks. I believe your best bet is to go with the 7600gt or something, around 150-200 bucks.

They have 512MB for under $200, but there not good performers.

For your price range, i would go with an x1800GTO 256MB for $199. Some reviews said that it outperforms the 7900GT, however i really doubt that.

how is the ATI RADEON X1900 CrossFire Edition 512MB PCIe Video Card
You dont need a crossfire edition if you only have a single card.

I would recommend the x1900XT 512MB video card. I think its between $400-$500.

what is the crossfire edition? why would I run two cards?

you would run two cards if one card isn't enough. To run crossfire, you first need a cross fire compatible card, which is i think anything x800 pci-e and above or something. Then you need a cross fire edition card as your second card. The two cards don't have to be the same, but if they're not, then the faster one would run the same speed as the slower one.

I take it the more pixel pipelines there are the better right?
Yes, but its not the only factor in performance.

The x1800XT is also a very good card, but slightly lower performance wise than the 7900GT is some games.
