Good Video Card?

I have no Idea Im coming up from scratch so I dont know what is going to be on the motherboard, Im asking for help on that in another thread
OK, just make sure you DO get a board with PCI-E x16 - most non-ultra-budget board nowadays do have it.

because some day in the next year or two ur gonna think about upgrading .. so u just buy a similar one which is gonna be cheaper after 2 years
and there u go
That's a mobo issue, not a video card one. If you have a regular X1800XT and a crossfire motherboard you can add an X1800XT Crossfire Master Card, and have a crossfire configuration ... should you ever want to - Video Cards 101 has some good arguments against dual card configurations.

should I get an on board video with the motherboard and then get the 1800? or am I asking for trouble
That's generally fine, provided it has a PCI-E x16 slot - you just disable the onboard video on the mobo. But do you really want a mobo with onboard video?

these vid cards have 512mb, could I get a better one that would [erform better with 256 for my money?
No. The X1800XT 512MB is better than the X1800XT 256MB edition, and there's nothing else worth considering from ATI at this price range. nVidia's 256MB 7900GT is worth a look, though, but you indicated you wanted to stay with ATI.

no i dont think u can get on board VGA with crossfire cards ....wont work together , one only should work(somebody correct me if i'm wrong)
Correct.

I cant find one with crossfire, it sounds and looks like this is what Im looking for.
You don't need or want a crossfire video card - its only something to look for when adding a second card. You do, however, need a Crossfire supporting motherboard. The Asus A8R-MVP is superb in this regard, as is the A8R32-MVP Deluxe, at a higher price point.
