Google Adsense or other options better?

Hi everyone,

I know this one is abit unusual, but I am currently working on a website for a friend, and he has asked me to find him an ad program to put on his website, but here is my main question:

most of his traffic will likely be the same people as it also includes a forum, so is google adsense the best to use or is somewhere else better, considering that we need per raw views, not unique views ,and preferrably not pay per click?

Thanks for your time reading this,

Thanks for the responses.

ill take a look at adsense, one of the major things that put me off, was the "cant ask people to click on links" so im not allowed to say "This site remains free thanks to our sponsors, please take a look at their sites" ?

Hmm...That's a gray area, I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as it's not in bright red letters blinking on the site banner you should be fine. Just curious, where did you see that?

I used adsense, got to US$100, waiting for the payment and got rejected :D

Most of the clicks weren't actually legit so its fair enough really. It is very hard to cheat the system haha.

But yeah, if your looking for pay per view then adsense isn't gonna be right for you.

No you can't say that. You also can't put images next to the ads without a border..
Google's ethical. What you're trying to do isn't. -.-

Their advertising system is expensive enough for advertisers; it's good they prevent people from cheating their system.

I wouldnt say what i was looking at was unethical. if say i was running a turn based game, and i made it so that if you click the banner, then you got extra turns (i have seen it done -if onlyi knew the advertising company...) i would consider that unethical.

i am just trying to generate enough to cover my hosting costs, and possibly a lil extra for any other projects i decide to put online.

Also, ive decided that if it has to be done by clicks, then so be it, as i cant see a proper alternative to this.

Google can also ban your Adsense account for invalid clicks, and then you're screwed. Think of Google as the type of person who holds the whip and are not afraid of using it. You're basically at the mercy of Google when you sign up for Adsense. There are plenty of other viable options to generate revenue from publishing ads:

If you are going to start an online newsletter, you can choose these business models:

1. Subscription based model...
.
.
.

2. Advertising based model = this basically means your entire content is free for all. Advertising can either be

- cost per 1000 impressions or CPM wherein you are paid for every 1000 visitor that sees the ad
- cost per click or CPC where you get paid everytime someone clicks on the ad
- cost per action or CPA where you get paid everytime a predetermined action happens (e.g. sale, qualified lead, etc)

There are several ways you can earn money from advertising:

a. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.

b. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

c. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: "no pain, no gain!"

I have a forum with 300 daily unique visitors, about 500 registered members.
Our monthly bill is $40 USD.

1. Used to have Google Ads, but we earned like $0.25 a day. They were
absolutely heinous ads, and ruined the theme of our forum. Got rid of
those by day two.

2. Sold ads directly to our forum members. Turns out, many of them had
their own products to sell. I created a rotating header banner. It had 4
slots in the rotation. I sold 5 slots x $10 each for 30 days. That
generated good revenue, and it had lots of interest.

3. When that died down, and I got tired of managing the ads, I took down
the advertising altogether. Now I just have a contribute/donate link where
our members can send money directly to my paypal account. Since that
went up, I have been raising around $120 a month in contributions. I used it
to fund our upgrade to a vBulletin forum, and pay all our monthly fees, and
we have enough in reserve to pay off the next 6 months.

My logic follows - if there isn't enough contributions to fund the forum, there
isn't enough interest to keep it online.
