What is your guys thought's on Google releasing a OS? I have watch the video on it and boot time is 7 seconds on a netbook. But everything is done inside of the web browser. So seems extremely limited.

I feel like it's a good start. It'll be a good alternative to windows xp and 7 starter for lower end netbooks. I mean, it does everything that a netbook is meant to do, and does it pretty quickly too.

So does the other Linux distro's but this one will get more recognition cause of it's name, everyone loves google.

i beleive that google are taking over the world so to speak and in 10 years google will be dominating the os market amounst other things, my reasoning is that they are slowing introducing more and more software and with the release of chrome os more and more developers will get on board and more and more programs or apps will be made compatible for there os, then once compatibilty has reached a high they will be able to release an os for desktops/laptops that is very compatible and from a trusted brand,

google is obviously aware of its stage on the world market and many people (who may be very computer illiterate) have now heard someone moaning about microsoft, google will take advantage of this and your average person will be swayed towards a google os knowing it as a trusted brand they have used for years, is very simple and fun to use and very popular for example my mum uses google for everything never even types in a web address.
slowly introducing chrome os, although a very limited os, will allow time for apps/software to become fully compatible before any release of a major os,
only chrome os is causing a stir a people are curious and excited and they already have major comp manufacturers on board ( i think dell is)

I don't think it is possible for them to take over the market. I say this cause because of the domination that apple and windows already has. Look at apple, most of it's users belong to it's cult (watch movie called mac heads), 90% of it's users are blind and would never switch. A lot of people are not like the ones on this message board, they don't care about the efficiency of there OS so windows will always sell cause google may be a known name but why switch when you are already familiar with a OS. Then you do have people like us that love OS that is complex, secure and customizable, which the OS they are releasing will not satisfy us.

It will have a nice small group enjoy it, if they do release another version not based on a browser for laptops and desktops then maybe it will have a nice take off.

The only thing that excites me on this is that it will introduce Linux to a new audience.
