well my new computer has AMD 5000+ X2 processor 2 gigs of ram a 320 gig hard drive and windows vista....but it has a nvidia geforce 6150 se chip set and i want to get the call of duty 4 when it comes it but it requiers 6600 geforce or higher....but will this still play it?...by the way this is an HP not a built one....so say if it wont plat it if i buy a 7300 gt will i need a new PSU to?

If that model HP has the option for a larger 350w or higher model supply you will be in a good position to upgrade into a newer card. If the one in now is like 300 or 301w you would have to run everything at the basic settings with a new card in. Without any ocing you should be able to go with any mid range card. You just have to run games and apps at the default settings to avoid pulling the power down.

Unfortunately you would have to contact HP's own support staff directly since that information is not even seen on the specifications page at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...s&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3548643&dlc=en&lang=en

That seems to be the one thing left out there besides having an ECS board. The supply itself should have the information on wattage in the label at the rear or bottom of the supply they use. Don't be surprised to see 300-350w as what it is rated for since prebuilds often use the lower end supplies just enough to cover their prepackaged hardware combination.

Even the HP website does not list your system, so good luck getting support from them in the future.

In my opinion, it was not a good buy. But I am very prejudiced about any pre built systems built by any of the big companys.

I could find no information about your power supply, either from surfing google, or from HP's website. So you will have to open up your case and look at the label on your powersupply got get the information you need.

And using that existing GPU to play the games you want? It might play it at the lowest settings. But You will HAVE to upgrade to a decent card to play the newer games at medium or higher settings/

ECS is the brand of board used in that model. It's not up there with Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc. being more in the Asrock catagory or as close as you can get. HP was using Asus boards in several models until seeing this newer line up. The main problem with prebuild manufacturers is that they go for who has it the cheapest!

Why would he only be able to use a 350W? Does HP use proprietary PSUs? I have an Intel mobo, Seagate processor, Intel Pentium D, and Windows Vista - All OEM versions which originally came in a prebuilt Acer machine. It's now powered by a 500W Antec (came with 250W generic).

If you are going to run XP instead of vista, and you don't need a DX10 capable card, go with the 7900gs. It will give you better frame rates than that 8500

i have vista but people have still said that the 7900gt is a better card...so do you think this will be at least a decent computer then

It is... Are you reverting back to XP or keeping Vista? I would go with the 7900GT in either, IMHO, the least graphics card I would go for in Vista would be the 8600GTS.

how about a 8600gt its 170 at the place near me and a 8600gts is 250 and thats to much for what i wanna spend....and im keeping vista

Only a 250w supply? OUCH! Big time there for sure! That still sounds a little low for a newer model. Sure that wasn't 350w? Actually the 8800s will outweigh any other cards as far as Vista is concerned. When comparing the Radeon X1950XTX to the 8600GTS the older Radeon out performed the 8600 model in XP. Different OS often means different hardwares.

The board and memory are the last two items to see how the newer high card will work with those. But the vital thing with a larger vpu chip seen on the DX10 lineup was the factory recommendations of at least a 450w supply for some of these cards. A prebuild on the other hand takes only what it comes prepached with into consideration there. The 8500 model itself will run on a standard 16x slot as long as the supply is adequate.
