Hi everyone, this is my first post/tread in here, and it is basicaly because I don't know where else to turn.

To make a long story short here is what happen.

2 weeks ago, I felt like clicking on a virus (and opening in my computer) :)
well I lost everything... (cracks.exe)
well eventualy I formated the HD and installed my windows XP home edition back in.

But here is what I noticed. the computer is VERY slow...

The main place I notice this different was in the starting the computer up.
()usualy click the power button on, and I have the following.

initical (compaq screen) (it is a compaq computer)
few seconds later a black screen and then the windows loading screen.
then the log in screen, then the windows it self.
(total time taken about 1 minute loading.)

NOW:
I turn the computer on,
1 compaq, then a black screen (10 seconds)
then a second black screen (glitches) (10 more seconds)
windows load.
log screen then windows...
(basicaly I notice the compouter takes about 2 minutes to load now.)

does anyone know what is up with my computer, what could the virus have changed?
thanks for any reply

wow u delibratly downloaded a virus? It is possible that the virus copied itself on your bios and when you reformat it goes back on ur hdd.

so, how would I remove it form the bios... I actually don't know what the bios is... (well I'm going to google it right now...)

ok, well I always kind of knew what the bios was, but didn't know, well I just updated it from the compaq site, but I got a checksum error message. (still followed the steps. but I not sure if I actually got it updated.
if I did then it did not make any difference. same long loading time.

where could I find the original Bios Info to completely replace the one I currently have it (basicaly eliminating the crap form the virus)

I dont know if you can just "replace" the bios. Try reseting your bios. If you dont know how to to that then google it.

Yea....I wouldn't download somthing like that....ever....unless you know what your doing and how to fix the dmg

If reseting the bios dosen't work try this.
Turn off your "system restore point" incase it is hiding in there. To do this go to
start-right click my computer then hit properties then hit system restore tab. Most crap makes back ups in that...and since making a point is worthless keep it off.
Next download Wintask 5 and see what all is booting up with your system.
Could just be because its a fresh install..that all the worthless crap is working again that comes with windows. Also the virus might just be booting up more processes thus lagging your boot up speeds dramaticly
Just for the fun of it....do a spybot and adware scan.

Also can we see a screenshot of your boot up process list?

I use to have a 1 min 39sec boot up time on my ancient relic of a machine...kill the crappy processes and I have a 23 sec boot up time now.

You can't replace the BIOS. Could you format your HDD and reset you BIOS at the same time? Do you have a second hard drive? did you have any disquettes in your floppy drive?
