Got my N64 out and graphics are sooo bad.

Hey, I linked my N64 up the other day for the first time in 2 years. And to my horror the graphics were terrible. I am using it on a bigger TV, and all it looks like is a huge blur. Is this because it runs on a very low resolution? and im used to games with better graphics? Also im using one of those composite AV leads, can you get a scart socket for the console and would that improve the graphics at all?. It was such a blur I now linked it up to my PC and play on my 19" flatscreen and still u cant really make out any detail. But I can make videos and pictures now :D.

Just wondering if it was just my n64 playing up?
If there was anything I can do?
And what resolution the games ran at back then?

i think it may be due to the graphics card not being able to support higher resolutions.

can you get a scart socket for the console and would that improve the graphics at all?.

i dont think this will make the graphics better, think of it like a mobile, its not going work any better while being on charge is it.

It was such a blur I now linked it up to my PC and play on my 19" flatscreen

try and turn the resolution in the windows settings. that might sort your blur problem out, or it might not work when linked up to the pc.

My PC can support alot higer resolutions than N64lol, and I was not awear N64s even had graphics cards. Besides the N64 only sent out game signals in one resolution they were not readilt adjustable like PC games.

Why do you think skart sockets were invented and used. Its because they send a clearer signal that has less interfearance

The game works find, it just looks like there is little detail. Here is an example of what I see.



That is a full screenshot using fraps so I gues that size is the resolution it runs at (640 by 480). And imagine that stretched out over a 28inch wide screen, or even full screen on a 19inch monitor.

Sorry if it seemed I was having a dig and you I wasnt, I know you were only trying to help. Was my fault, I obviousely did not explain clearly what the problem if it was atall was.

Its because TVS have very low MAX reuslations, and it was diesgend for use with a TV. N64 graphics ARE very bad, but it should not be blurry. It should be shark, but everything should be make out of shapes, and "circles" don't normaly exist.
 
Yeah, that shouldn't be fuzzy like that. Try adjusting the sharpness on your TV. Although you'll probably have to readjust the TV for regular viewing, it's more than likely just a discrepancy between the TV and N64... Oh, and for the record, I wouldn't say that N64 graphics are bad, they're just OLD... If it came out now, then yes, bad; 10 years ago, amazing!!! (which, if you are old enough to remember when it came out, it was considered amazing being the first 3D console...)
 
Okay I will fiddle with sharpness, the lead seems really old and crappy, I may need to replace it.

And yes I agree it was amazing and remember when it came out but was not first 3D console.

Had the
- Sega Mega Drive
- Playstation (dunno what came first this or N64)

But 4th? what other consol was there?
 
I should clarify, it was the first of the major 2 that people still play from time to time. (Including PlayStation, N64)
