gps software for cell phone?

So I heard about free GPS software for cell phones, because they have those govt. mandated gps trackers in them. So I guess it would make sense to take advantage of that tracker and use it for something other than invading privacy. I looked for a while but cant find any software that doesn't use up minutes or you have to put on a plan. So are there any well known software sources out there that have software like this?

What phone do you have?

You might be able to find some java-based software around. I've played with mobile G-Maps (I think it was called) and it works pretty well. However, seeing as I don't have an actual GPS in my phone, it's not of much good to me :P

If you just want a GPS, I'd say break down and buy one. Ebay is a great place to look. Many have minor software glitches that are very easy to fix.
