GPU for around £200 - Nvidia GTX 260?

I'm currently running an asus m3n-h hdmi motherboard with quad core amd phenom processor (2.3ghz each).

My current GPU is an nvidia 9600gt. I was hoping people might be able to shed some light on whether or not a GTX 260 would be a reasonable upgrade for my system or is there a chance it could bottleneck? Also would i really notice any increase in performance?

I have a 600W psu so i think it should be capable of the upgrade but as i'm less expecrienced than many of the folk on here i just thought i'd ask what peoples opinions were on a card for high end gaming in this price range.

cheers guys

Do you think it would bottleneck the system badly though? In a sense what I'm trying to ask is could i expect to see any performance increase at all as opposed to my 9600gt?

hey whats up check this out i was reading your stuff on here and i have the same graphic card as you and processor the only thing that is different is that we have different boards and hard drives but i might be able to get you up to speed i hear stories about that graphic card that your getting. they say it will play crysis in full graphics don't know if its true but i know are's want. but that is a very good card. if you get it make sure its from new egg <newegg.com> and if you want to spend the extra money i would say run sli but might have to upgrade your psu not experienced enough to tell you though.

I was looking at the XFX NVidia GeForce GTX260 XXX 896MB GDDR3 version from www.pcnextday.co.uk

I couldn't see any need to run this card in sli mode surely? That's the point of getting a powerful card in the first place.......so I only need one. And yes i do want to be able to play crysis on max settings.

I'm just struggling to see how the cpu could bottleneck it. I know it's not intel, but still, it must have a fair bit of power to it?

Bottlenecking occurs when a piece of equipment in the system is specced to high for the rest of the components. Therefore it can't run at full capacity as it is drawn back by the ability of the other components. I just don't wanna shell out the cash for one and find that it hasn't really improved the performance that greatly.

ok thanks and i know that the card your thinking of alienware used it and i can tell you that it is alot better than the one you got right now. and about it over rulling your system though my only concern is your psu i dont know if 600w is enough i would have to check out specs on it. but im running 500w with the same card you got right now. i don't think there will be that big of a problem.

Although 500w may be the minimum, I've heard that psu's can vary quite greatly regardless of their stated power. And this is quite a power hungry card. I have an EZ Cool 600w supply. Do you guys think this will be enough?

Cheers
