GPU processor cores vs memory

Hi i recently built my own desktop, however i didn't install a dedicated graphics card but want to. My dilemma is that I know roughly what I want but I don't know which would be better to have more of. so my question is this:

In a GPU would it be better to have more processor cores and less GDDR5 memory OR would it be better to have more memory and less processor cores?
*if you could specify why one vs the other that would be great*

GPUs I'm looking at are a gtx 560 2gb and gtx 560 ti 1gb, both evga superclocked:

and

(note: these are both around my price range so I don't expect I'll be buying a second 560 ti for SLI anytime soon so that is why I ask the question)

Im not to good with specs of cards, but generally speaking, more cores is better. The 560ti i believe will outperform the 560.

For my lack of knowledge its a hard comparison (for me) as they are pretty close in terms of ranking in the current gts 500 series, 550ti, 560, 560ti etc.

But for the most a higher end card with less memory is better than a lower end card with more, for example, a gtx 560ti with 1gb would kill a hd 5450 2gb.

What monitor/resolution are you playing at? I would try to squeeze for a 560 ti 2GB, but yeah the 560 ti would be faster than the regular 560.

The big thing with memory on a GPU, is the resolution you are playing at. If you have a smaller monitor an playing at, say, 1440x900, 1GB would be fine.

Thanks for the feedback. For my PC i would like to be playing/operating around 1920 x 1080 res. (with as minor loss of fps as i can, plans are to be playing skyrim, BF3, Batman AC, etc). My monitor is a samsung lcd 23" (if i remember correctly, its back in my college dorm, so i don't have access to it currently for exact specs)

2gb is the suggested amount of Vram for 1080p, but you could get away with 1gb. If your deciding between the 560 2gb and 560 ti 1gb, I'd get the 560 ti everyday.

thanks for the thoughts claptonman, who knows maybe i might just wait until i have enough for the 560 ti 2gb, get the best of both worlds.
