GPU shootout: What should i get

ok this is my dilemma:

I want to get something that will play games the best for a long time.

Now these are my choices:

GeForce 8800GT
GeForce 8800GTS 512mb
GeForce Ultra (Have prices Dropped???)
GeForce 9800 GT/GTS (If or when they come out)
9800 GX2 (very expensive but if it will be the best for 1 year and last for 2 - 3+ years im happy)
ATI HD3870 (are 2 of these in crossfire better than one X2?)
ATI HD3870X2

Now heres the trick.

I play low resolutions (1280x1024 max cause i use a CRT and when i get my 19" LCD that will probably be my native resolution (or a bit bigger))

But i play at a demanding level, Full AA/AF, and general card to be set for max quality etc.

So what will be my best bet?

TWO 3870's. if you have got the cash then the GX2 is your best bet, though it is power hungry and still has very bad drivers

The GX2 is cheaper than the Ultra ?!?!!?!?!?

Yeah i might go for the GX2, but at low res is it worth it?

Also is my current computer going to bottle neck the Card?

p.s. i also think i need more ram.

4 gigs of ram is plenty, really. no the card will not bottleneck your system. even at low res the card is still great, but the thing is, games are so easy for it right now that in the future that low res will allow you to play games on higher settings.

Im saying that will my system bottleneck the card?

And i guess you have a point

I am gonna get a 700 watt PSU if that makes you guys feel better.

But will i lose frames?

I guess i would but by how much compared to lets say a Quad 2.4 or 2.5?

But i do need a mobo as this has only PCIx16 or is that ok?

In reviews, i only look at specific games, Crysis (I play it and it is the most demanding game) and Call of Duty 4, and the other things like specs, power, conclusion.

In CoD4, it PWNS, but in crysis, it goes below the Ultra with AA. Buth those are also at very high resolutions. as i said the highest ill play is at 1280x1024 or 1 step more (depending on LCD screen i get (19" LG LCD)

Will they fix the AA prob with drivers? or is that a memory interface problem? (256x2 vs 384)

OK ive also been thinking and came up with an idea. Here in South Africa things are overpriced.

But, my Old man is going to USA!!!!!!!!

So here is the latest list.

9600GT in SLI (Ill get the eVGA KO model)
8800GT in SLI (Ill get the normal Twintech model (is Twintech good?))
Seeing as both cost the same, what would be better in SLI?
Note with the SLI configuration, ill save money which will go towards the SLI mobo
9800GT SLI (if it comes out)
8800GTS 512
9800GX2 (Will they fix the AA prob with drivers? or is that a memory interface problem? (256x2 vs 384))

Please keep in mind that i want this to be FutureProof (well to compete with top dog for a year, and to be able to play well for another 2-3 years)

Also between the 9600GT and the 8800GT, i have seen on some reviews that they are almost par (on SLI), but will the 9600 be affected cause of the 64 stream processors vs the 112? Will there be an Image quality Difference or just frames?

8800GTS 512!
Ther 9 series is basically the 8 series. I.E 9800GX2 is bacically two 8800GTS 512 and the 9800GTX averages about 2 fps faster in most games, so the 9 series= waste of money!

But that gets a Tad too expensive.

Sorry guys.

Can i ask, will the 64 vs 112 stream processors and 505m vs 754m transistors make a difference? How much?

Cause they say games these days need more Stream Processors

But SLI at that resolution can have have all settings maxed out (well crysis nearly)

But i might get a bigger screen.
