Gpu suggestions?

Hey guys, i have recently purchased a lg monitor with amd freesync and i have absolutely no use of it as i own a nvidia gtx 660 card. I have been wanting to upgrade my gpu for a long time and i think that it is a good time now.

My problem is that i have no idea if i should upgrade to a nvidia card or an amd card which i have never owned before and have no clue which good models are out there where as i had many nvidia cards before. The card will be used for gaming mainly. Forza etc. Price range wouldnt reach over 300 or 400 ( somewhere around that but not sure yet).

So sorry for such a late reply been really busy. Anyways i live in ireland. Pc specs. I7 4770 16 gb ram psu is 460w but if i upgrade my gpu then obviously i will upgrade my psu and my mb is ms 7826 kaili

The fastest card right now from AMD (which supports) freesync is the RX 480.

Nvidia equivalent to that card would be a GTX 1060.
 
Ok thanks for the reply, but any opinions on what you guys would do in my position with a freesync monitor ? Get the amd card to benefit from freesync or just get one of the nvidia cards?

I wouldn't buy an AMD card specifically cause I bought a Free-Sync monitor..

I would be buying Nvidia regardless.

I haven't experienced freesync or g sync yet, do they offer any benefits over a normal monitor running at higher frame rates than its refresh rate?

I can't get around the prices of G-Sync monitors but I've heard they are awesome for fps shooters..etc, but on the flip side, I run an Asus 4K/1ms panel, non IPS. non G-sync and primarily at 1440p/60hz with my GTX 1080 and its amazing for all I play.
 
I own a LG 21:9 ultrawide that supports freesync...

And I own a GTX 1080. Honestly, to me, unless the monitor's like 100+hz refresh rate, I wouldn't bother with freesync or gsync.

Yes. The adaptive sync on the monitors (gsync and freesync) makes for very smooth visuals even when the fps fluctuates.
 
Thanks for the replies, i also own a lg 21:9 ultrawide monitor and i just have no idea on what to do. What cards would you guys suggest? Also my mothherboard is quite bad and old, would it do fine?

Hypothetically speaking, if I had two identical monitors, but one had gsync/freesync and the other didn't and they were both constantly provided with frame rates over (never lower) their refresh rate, would you still see a benefit?

Which 21:9 did you buy? The 1440p one or the 1080p one?

Unless you cap your FPS with v-sync, you're gonna see screen tearing. Gsync and freesync is suppose to fix that.

I always play with v-sync because I can't play with even a little screen tearing, it drives me crazy and I always try to have my minimum fps close or even over my monitors refresh rate, so maybe I would see much of a difference, but I will check it out at some point.
 
You probably want to run at a minimum the 8gb RX 480 then. You probably want to invest in a 6GB GTX 1060, or go one step further and get a GTX 1070.
 
What about my motherboard, will it do fine and any brand (and which is cheapest) you guys would recommend for the 1060/70

Didn't want to start a new thread, the 1060 right now is about what 200-250 for the 3gb? and the 1070 is like 2x the price at 400-450? I most likely wont be able to afford the 1070 at that price but during black friday how much do you guys see these two cards going down by?
