gpu that is semi future proof

Alright I have narrowed it down to four gpu's I'll let the forum decide.

since everything seems to be compared to Crysis I would like it to be able to play crisis on high settings. maxed if possible. At least I know that it will be overkill for anything else. Also I don't want to have to pick up another one in a year or too. so are any of these reasonably future proof? I know that the advancement in technology makes that nearly impossible hopefully this will last me to another build 3-4 years?... maybe I'm asking too much. Anyway let me know what you think.

are these gpu's in your price range?
there are way more powerful cards out there than the ones you listed.
if you want ati people do seem to be happy with the 4900 series.

but if you are looking for use over the next 3-4 years you might want to get into
the 5800 series or even the 5900 series.
they are the newest from ati, and will definetly play crysis on high (depending on the rest of your system).

Unfortunately, that is about it for my price range. I know that there are a lot better but I do not have the money to go much above what I have listed here. possibly 180-200 max.

you said that people were happy with the 4900 series. Is there anything that would out perform the 5770 that I have listed in my price range?

I forgot two things...

I can not run in crossfire. I do not have 2 pci express slots or the money to buy two cards.

I have a flat panel 21.5" monitor that runs in 1920x1080 and I read that I should try to get it in the naive resolution to get the best results.
 
I also heard that with high performance games that there is a bottleneck with having a dual core cpu rather than a quad core. So can anyone confirm this? or am I getting bad info off the internet again...
 
it seems that there are starting to be more games that are really taking advantage of quad cores. i have heard that games like gta IV and l4d use quads very well. supposedly crysis does too but i have heard claims against that as well, so i am not sure there...

Theres already some games thats optimised for Quad cores,and run much better on a quad...GTA IV for example.

If you can afford it,look into getting a 4890 or something like a 275 nvidia.

5770 is alright,but wont be all that good for future DX11 games....id just get a higher end DX10 card now and when the time comes,get a better DX11 card.
 
Crysis maxed. As in full AA 1920x1200, ect? Won't happen with any of them cards. Not even my gtx 295 overclocked can do it.

Ok so it seems that the general consensus is that a 4890 is the best that you can get in that price range. I am still having some trouble understanding why. I have looked at the specs and found tons of articles that give great reviews of it, but I can't seem to find any clear cut reason that the 4890 will blow away the 5770. Not to mention that I figured that having it in the 5 series would be an upgrade anyway; but I understand that those are just numbers and may not indicate performance upgrades.

So does anyone have any clear reason why it is better and why is should go with a 4890 over a 5770 even though the 5770 is in DirectX 11 and is 30-50 dollars cheaper

It's just been legendary for it's overclocking and magnificent game play. But, a lot of people like the 5770, i think the fact that it has DX11 sways them, which shouldnt be a reason unless you specifically want to play DX 11 games. the 4890 can still play them too.
 
Ok so the msi card looks like a good deal to me but I am still wondering why it is so much better. keep in mind that I don't really have a need to overclock it. I have other bottlenecks that need to be resolved first.

the memory is 128 bit on the hd 5770 and the hd 4890 is 256 bit. that is also the only difference between the hd 5770 and the hd 5870 (i believe).

Ok I saw that too but I was not sure if that had a huge difference since some of the higher power cards had 128 bit as well. thanks for the reply.
