GPU vs. CPU

Hi guys. I have a Gateway GT5468 (Yeah I know its not the best :) )) but I was looking at upgrades. Since I still have the stock PSU Im definitely upgrading that, and my ram is maxed out at 2GB with the ECS-945GCT-M3 V3 Mobo. I had the question though, would it be more worthwhile to up my CPU or my GPU. For the reference my current cpu is the stock Pentium Dual Core E2180 1.8 GHZ (Non overclockable due to factory limitations) and my current GPU is a crappy Nvidia 8400GS which still at the time provided a modest increase of the included 950 GMA.

So my final question is which to upgrade first. The CPU to this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206 or my GPU to a Nvidia 9800GT?

Thanks, and all opinions are appreciated.

Many games today are very GPU demanding. I'd start with the graphics card first and then the cpu. Can that ECS handle either upgrade?

Yeah, it can handle a max of 2GB ram (Im not sure, if youd like to look be my guest :D). I know it can handle a C2D at the max with a 65-45nm die. I know it can handle the 9800GT
