Hi, when I started my
computer this morning,
it made 5 short beeps,
and the pc didnt start.
tried to restart the pc a
couple of times, since it
has always fixed the
problem for me.
I read somewhere that
reseating your ram may
help. I did that and then
the gpu didnt turn on
(monitor got no signal
and gpus fans didn't
start. Now I tried
putting the ram back to
the slots where they
were before. That didnt
help neither. What
should I do now? Forgot to mention that it doesn't make those 5beeps anymore, but everything else boots up nicely

Specs: R9 270x
I5 3540
B75 AsRock

Edit: dunno why the text is like that, sry about that

Whats the make and model of power supply? Have you tried removing and reinserting the video card? Reset the cmos?

On top of what John is asking, are you using power connectors that came with the card?

If so try to find some that come with your PSU, and remember to use the correct pin type.

the PSU is Gigabyte ATX 2.3 620W PFC/ACTIVE SUPERB GE-E620A-C3. But yes im working on removing and reinserting the video card, its a quite challenge to me because i cant find the freaking screws that attach the video card to the case... I doubt reseting the CMOS helps but I guess I'll try that aswell

Im not sure if they came with the card, because I chose the parts and then the company put the pc together

There should be one screw at the back of the case holding the card in. There then may also be a clip holding the card in where it meets the motherboard.

Have you referred to your motherboard manual for what 5 short beeps are for? It should give you a better idea of where to look for problems.

Ok, the manual said that 5beeps means "procces error" so does that mean the processor has some problems? Alot of people say that 5beeps means GPU problem though. That would be pretty logical because it used to say "amd display driver has stopped working and has recovered" when i was already on the desktop. But now it doesnt beep at all, but before it beeped and it didnt start but finally booted up if i kept trying.

The beeps are from the POST process (power on self test) which all motherboards will do when you first power on. Generally one beep means everything is OK, the rest will cause your system to not boot due to a hardware issue.

Your CPU error will probably be either an issue with the CPU itself, an issue with the motherboard, or a power issue.

Ignore what "alot of people" say, who is going to know more about your product, those people or the ones that actually made the hardware you are using and set those codes up?

Firstly if you have not already, reset the CMOS. Again if you are not sure, check the manual. There will be either two or three pins on your motherboard which, when shorted, will set your BIOS settings back to default. Failing that, remove the battery from your motherboard for 30 seconds and put it back in, this will do the same thing.

Try powering on again.

If no luck, then next, check all power connectors. There should be a 20 or 24 pin connector to your motherboard, a 4 or 8 pin connector to your motherboard and either a 6 or 8 pin connector to your graphics card. Each hard drive and optical drive will need either one SATA connector or one molex.

If all are secure and it still does not work, do you have another computer available to use components from for testing?
