"Grandpa Comp" with 9800gtx+??

Yeah, that GPU would kill your PSU. Sure it will bottleneck, but I am sure it is better then what you already have. If you do get it though make sure to upgrade your PSU!

Dang, that'll probably be expensive.
It's hard to find RAM for DDR PC3200 that is good for cheap. Couldn't I just get two more gigs of the same and be fine?
Also, how good of a power supply should I get?
For clarification on the bottleneck, I meant the CPU limiting the GPU, you guys did too, right?

Nothing wrong with the memory. You have 2gbs of DDR 400. But your P/S is probable not going to be able to kick it. That card is a bit overkill for that system. Look at something like a 3850/3870 or 9600GT

2 gigs of ddr is not that fast at all beause its ddr
and its only at 400 mhz

whats the point of buying a awesome graphics card if the other parts of your system are this weak?

Because DDR 400 is the max accepted by his board and 2gbs is enough for a system like his, going for more than 2gbs he would see no improvement in Video performance. For his system he would never get the performance out of a 9800GTX+ if he used more memory or not (waste of money). His best option is just go for a lower end card. Like a 3870 or 9600GT

3870's are pretty cheap now. I'd suggest a 500w name brand psu though. Your ram is fine. If you can find a cheap socket 939 cpu i'd up it a bit, but, it won't be a big bottleneck for a 3870 (or as StrangleHold said a 9600)

I think even that card is going to be bottlenecked by the CPU.

Even my 6300 is bottlenecking my card by a bit since I can't OC it atm.

Yeah, the way I look at it though is that he is always going to have that card. Lets say down the road he wants to upgrade his computer to keep up with games, he won't have to upgrade his GPU. Same with the PSU, he will have to upgrade sooner or later.

So I've decided to go with these:

OCZ 600 Watt PSU marked down to $30 from $100.

and

Palit 9600GT 1GB GDDR3 (has best memory clock speeds) marked down from $140 to $110

Thanks everyone for the insanely fast and helpful replies. It'll be a good b-day this year with Left 4 Dead etc. Feel free to comment on the hardware I'm going with

New PSU will be nesscary. And yes, those parts are gonna bottleneck that GPU. But you can also get better parts down the road, right?
