8600 gts oc edition is a very nice card that goes from ~$150-200. and if u pay a little more u can get the 8800 gts 320 mb which is really the best card atm from price till performance (arround $250)

The 8600 will hardly play DX9 games at respectable levels, never mind DX10!!
How much do you want to spend?

If your gonna use a 17" Monitor get the 8800GTS 320mb, the GTX or 640mb GTS won't make much difference at these resolutions.
If your gonna use a 19" Monitor. Look more towards the 640mb version or the X2900XT.
Otherwise, it's between the 8800GTX and the 8800Ultra, depending on how much money you have.;)

I have the HD 2900XT and it really is a great card, have a look at this thread: 2900 as I mention in this thread it is half the price of the 8800gtx Ultra

Yeah, maybe. But look at the performance of an 8800GTX/Ultra to the performance of an X2900XT........I think i'm starting to sound like an nVidia fanboy, although ATi are my favorite.:) What next, i might even buy an Intel processor.:P

lol, I know what you mean, but as I said half the price and as Ritchie888 said, didn't want to spend to much, 2900XT very reasonable.

The 8600gts will play all dx9 games out now with no problem, hell even my 7600gt can do that.

And the 8800ultra is overpriced junk.

:)

cool cheers for everyone's help
i think the 8 series is a bit expensive for what i want to do
iv been looking at the 7 series which seem much more my price range and i see alot of them say 'support upto 256mb'
what does that mean?
does it mean if i have a computer with a 2 RAMS (1gb each) that this card wont support the system?

one more thing.. it needs to be good enough to run windows vista ultimate
i was thinking of this one:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=119701
is that good enough for the job?
and will it fit in with this motherboard:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=123842
i believe there is some graphics already on the board (correct me if im wrong)
will the graphic card work with the graphics on the motherboard to make an even better graphic performance?

give us some specification of the ur comp? Cause that GPU u list isn't really design for vista. And inorder to run vista ur system must have atleast 1g of ram to ensure smooth usage.

or you can buy a 8600gt for 120 or a radeon x1950gt 256 for 130 amd a radeon x1950gt 512mb for 150 id choose out of these for best preformance from price
