Graphic cards for 300-400 dollars

Hi, I need a new graphic card in order to handle some of my newest games, and I've been looking for a few around the price $300-400. What would be my best choice? I've been looking at 9800GTX a little. how good will this be? is there some that is better around that price?

I want it to handle game graphics as good as I possibly can, I've also found a few with around 1GB memory, but I've been told these generally aren't that good for games anyway. is that true? :P

The 1GB versions don't have a big enough interface (it's 256bit) for it to work efficiently (and therefor it won't work better then a card with 512mb).

If you really want a good card for real high graphics (1900*1200 or perhaps 1680*1050) then I'd suggest one of the old block; 8800GTX. A lot of people have bought this in the past and are getting rid of it now. I see a lot of second hands for under 200 euro's (while the cheapest 9800GTX costs like 220 euro's). I've even seen one for 130 euro's.

Also the cheapest one out of the store would probably be Asus as I have seen them for only 20 euro's more expensive then the cheapest 9800GTX.

Though a 9800GTX won't differ much on 1680*1050 or lower. So perhaps you should get that if you're not getting a 24 inch or bigger :)

Well as far a second hand goes, I don't think I'll ever buy components to a computer that way. I've just had to many hardware related issues in the past to think it will be better in the long run, when new I can just get it on the warranty, but with a second hand component it's just trash. Maybe I've just had some bad luck (or tbh good luck, because this have 3 times now made me able to trade old components with new better once because the store don't have my old :) )

Anyway, I'll be running at 1600x1200, obviously I might put it down a little in a demanding game, but my goal is to be able to keep that resolution. So you're saying a 8800GTX 512Mb would be better than the 9800GTX?
