graphic design software

anyone know of any programs that i can use to create 3-d models, such as those i would use in an animated movie? it doesnt have to be free. and actually, i know movies like this require alot of work and probably more equipment than i have, but does anyone know of a good program that i could use to to make animated movies? kind of a stretch, but i thought i'd see what you guys knew. thanks for the help

Major animation studios develop their own software, but some major players in the 3D market that the smaller companies use:

3DsMax
Maya
Lightwave
Softimage


those all cost money, there is a free open source one called blender, but I think it only runs on Linux.

i've looked at 3ds max, and i really like it so far. any better recommendations?
