Graphics card - Black/white Lines in every games !

Hello,

Me having ATI 9800XT 256MB for around a year now and recently me facing some graphics problems.

In most of the games, irrespective of settings(low/medium/high), the outline in any object gets black/white Zig-Zag lines running through them and as I move in game it gets even more dark & noticeable.

I am having this problem in almost every other game, but I am attaching the pics from BF2 & HL2, so that you can get an idea of what exactly I am speaking about.

Things tried to solve this problem:
Switched drivers
Cleaned entire card
Enable/Disable AA and AF,
Vertical sync,
Resolution changes

Note: I have never overclocked the card.

The card is fitted into the slot properly and there is no connection problem.

Any ideas, whats causing this ?

Personally mate, I don't think there is anything wrong with it, I cannot spot any obvious problems with your graphics card, it's just how it is mate, the objects sometime gets zig-zaggy. Also the shaders will make it darker, especially in Half-Life 2 where the shaders make it lighter or darker, There was nothing in the screenshots that make me go "omg it's going to die"

So I think it's fine
Your HL2 Screens show that the shaders are working fine and the reflections on the pole are working fine, thats why they look zig-zaggy.........because there perfect.... you have nothing to worry about.

Games aren't made to look exactly life like...... yet

That can be solved by using a higher AA setting ingame. But the cost is performance so find some good settings. You don't see me complaining about rough edges in games, and I have a GF4 MX440.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything bad, just caused from lower resolutions and AA settings. HL2 did look a tad odd. Are your drivers up to date as well?

Heya,

As you 9800 pro 256mb, I would request you to see if you are getting this kind of annoying moving Zig-Zag black & white lines in certain parts.

You can check in BF2: The map is "Operation Clean Sweep" and the Spawn Point used in the screenshots is the Airstrip of US near the Aircraft hanger.

In HL2: Insertion Point right after starting an New Game. You can check for these lines in the train compartment.

And yes to all who are saying an Resolution and AA problem these screenshots were taken while using 1280x1024 Resolution and 6x AA + 8X AF

That's cause you got a low resolution maty, try increasing it.

The resolution is not the problem. I belive that it's the limitation of the display technology (LCD monitor and TFTs). The zigzags have to occur especially when it comes to vertical/horizontal lines and objects. Even with AA, this problem is not wholly removed, it's only made less noticeable.

I hope this illustrates the problem well...

It looks like the "lines" in the HL2 pics are simply part of the reflection of the lights off the shiny metal on the poles.

You people think that the screenshots looks pretty normal, especially HL2 as the shaders are meant to be tht way !? But HEY what about BF2, those plays(lines) a most annoying part in BF2.

I have already mentioned the stages where its most highlited and visible, please can somebody Run tht stage and can tellme if the same thing is visible with your graphics card too !

NOTE: The screenshots were used with 1280x1024 Resolution with AA and AF Turned on.

I'll be honest... Your pictures are nearly impossible to see anything. You need to enlarge those bad spots or something. It just really looks like you need to turn on AA but you say you are. Those shots say otherwise though. Try turning it up more. From the pix it don't necessarily look like black and white lines. It looks more like highlights from a light source and it looks broken up due to "extremely" bad jaggies. If your using AA you need to turn that up more.

Well,

There are jaggies + lines tht flickers, but tht needs an video to explain!
In the shot u posted the Tower at the end shows lines tht infact flickers as I move.

One thing me found out is that In ATI Control Panel under the Video section, in Deinterlacing option, the Ati Flag and surrounding appears to be almost same effect that my games are suffering from.

At the moment it is set in: Auto detect, and those lines are visible in the control panel.
So I guess this is where the problem is, and I wonder if it can be fixed.

NOTE: I Have already Resetted my Graphics to default company settings and that no kind of effect are selected.
