Graphics card - dedicated vs. shared memory

I'm looking for a laptop. I prefer something with a graphics card with dedicated memory but most of what I've seen are using shared memory.

I'm wondering... in terms of performace (although I know dedicated memory is better... :P ), how do I compare a card with 64MB dedicated memory to the one with 128MB shared memory? Is the one with dedicated memory still better even though it has less memory?

I need a graphics card that I can play games like Sim City 4 and some maps utilities...

most of the time you will only find laptops with shared memory, they aren't supposed to be used to play games. If you find a 'destop replacement' laptop it should have more than good enough video to do what you want.

if u have a good ati gfx chipset laptop, u should run some games fine, just dont get that shitty intel extreme crud

the independant graphics card will eat through the dhared any day. and if yours is shared the ram suffers
