Graphics Card for a NON-gamer??/

Hey whatsup I'm a graphic designer.... was wondering what would be a good INEXPENSIVE card for me as I don't play games..... I also, do not do 3d work except very little...

The thing is, I'm trying to throw down on 2 gigs of memory on my e6400 build and I was hoping to cut down costs on my already expensive 7600gt that I don't think I really need for the job i'm doing...

Also, does your video card effect rendering speeds for video? just wondering that too...

Thanks alot for your help....

Something like a 6200TC was a great card for me. It had much better OpenGL support than my current 7600GT, and really nice TV-Out if you ever wished to use it.

For the most part, no, rendering spends are more dependent on your CPU than GPU.

yes, but will this work for a core2e6400???

also, It looks a little old I was looking for something more in the 40-75 doller range and I should be fine then...

Current generation budgets cards are aimed at people like you, the 7300 would do the job very nicely, you can even go for a FX5200 if you are really short on money.

are you talking about rendering video as in playback? Or rendering video as in encoding video?

If you're talking about playback, yes, the card has everything to do with playback.

Nvidia has graphics decoder chips onboard to some degree, but ATI has really perfected it. Their radeon line has onboard decoding for mpeg-2, mpeg-4 (which includes divx/xvid/windows media 9) and even h264 (mkV files, windows media 10, bluray, hd-dvd) which takes a lot of strain off of the cpu.

I only have a pentium 4, and even while watching 1080P videos encoded in h264, my cpu useage is only 1-3% with my x1300

for a non gamer, passive cooling seems like a better idea, and the radeon x1000 series suppourts more audio codecs
and the 7300 gt is an unfair comparison, plus it has a little noisy fan

its close to 30% more, thats like comparing a 1950xt and a 8800 gts 320mb
