Graphics card for new build (<= $300)

I'm currently working on a new build. I'll be using and AMD CPU/board.

I want it to be able to game. My budget for the card is around 300. Optimally I'd like to pay between 200-250. I'd prefer Nvidia, but if there is an ATI for a similar price with better performance I'll be open to that.

Thank you for any input.

ATI is generally cheaper and has better performance, but nvidia usually has thequality aspect. ATI 6000- series is probably your best bet if your on a budget

It's awesome, can max out anything I throw at it. Runs cool and quiet and overclocks well, but now I want either a GTX 580 or 590 as I plan on getting a bigger monitor sometime in the near future. It's the GTX 285 of this generation to help put it in perspective.

ATI is generally cheaper and has more performance per watt but nvidia is currently the market leader in raw performance.

The gtx560 is a good choice, it performs at stock somewhere in between the HD6950 and the hd6970, and if you not that much of overclocker you can get very high stock overclocked models, which obviously give a performance boost.

You could consider a hd6950 and possibly have the chance of unlocking it to a hd6970 but the newer models apparently arent as successful, I d say go for the gtx560 tbh

This evga one is slightly overclocked out of the box and is currently one of the cheapest good brands available (234.99 after) rebate

But, as already mentioned, you need to ensure your psu will be able to handle it, do you know the make and model?
