Graphics Card for Star WarsTOR

I didn't see any 'introduce yourself' section for the forum, so I figured I'd dive right in here with my first post/thread.

-I (admittedly) am a console gamer (gasp, I know)... and love most everything that Bioware has done recently, and thus I have had a very keen eye towards Star Wars The Old Republic coming out fairly soon.

What I have seen for the specs though does give me pause: Namely the graphics card. I recently bought a Gateway DX4860-UB21P that was (obviously) never intended for gaming, just college work (M-Office). I see that the Gateway seems fine (i5 2300 processor, Win 7, 8GB RAM) for everything except the minimum graphics card requirements: Intel 4100, where I believe mine is an Intel 2000.

With that said I only run it at 1280x768 output resolution to an old 720P 32-inch TV. Does this (low output resolution) make any difference... as I watch HD videos on it all the time without issue? I'm not a graphics stickler by any means, I just want to be able to play the game.

I do understand minimum requirements mean: minimum requirements quite literally, but in your opinion will I be able to get away with the Intel-2000 with out much frame-stutter or graphics issues?

If I do need a better graphics card (which is where I think this is obviously heading), is there any you recommend that would fit the proverbial bill that I wouldn't need extra cooling or a power supply for?

Thanks in advance for your input!

(PS: Mods and admins - move this to the gaming-section if seen fit, I posted it here since it is a graphics-card-only question).

Considering your PSU on your computer is pretty much useless for a video card you're going to have to upgrade that too. Most PSU's that come with prebuilts from companies like HP and Dell are pretty low quality. I've got to go but I'm sure someone else can recommend a card. Best of luck!

Also, what's your budget for a card and PSU?

No, your integrated graphics will have trouble playing it. You need to upgrade to an actual graphics card. But before you do that, you also need to buy a new power supply. Yours is weak and won't handle a new card. Look into about 650w and from a company like corsair, antec, silverstone, seasonic, PC power and cooling, or xfx. What is your budget to upgrade it?

Thanks for the quick replies... figured it would be going this way.

Sorry about leaving the piece of crucial information out... I have between $250-$500, but the lower the better, obviously.

With the above you'd be able to play it but I would recommend going higher. This game acts like it will be around for a while, meaning expansions and the like so requirements will climb. (take WoW for example). I'd recommend a 550w PSU from a reputable company that Clapton mentioned and then a Radeon 5770/6770 (they're the same card but rebranded) or GTX 550 TI thereabouts. May cost more now but in the long run you'll appreciate the inital investment. Or get a 560 TI if you really want some good performance.

that is true, but really i don't think you'll need more than that for at least a year while on a 1280x1024, just the res is so low it doesn't take much, although a corsair cx600 and an hd5/6770 will go further

i would say a 6670, but they seem fairly closely priced to the 6770 and 5770 and idk the actual fps diff so not sure on that.
