hello i seem to be having a problem with my graphics card and/or motherboard.
every time i unplug the computer from the monitor to hook up somewhere else, it's 15-30 minutes of turmoil. the monitor will just not pick up the signal. i have to turn off the computer, try replugging it in a different dvi slot, turn it on again and hope for the best. after a few times of doing that it eventually picks up. random success rate every time. it's quite frustrating.
i have the EVGA E-GeForce 8600GT on Asus P5K EGA775.
i have tried, 1) making sure all the plugs are in right, 2) getting rid of dust inside, 3) different monitors and different vga to dvi converters
btw, there is a pattern that might help the diagnosis. whenever i hear the motherboard beep when i push 'power', i know that the monitor will turn on. when it does not beep then the monitor will not pick up the signal. i have come to find out that this is the POST beep, but i'm not sure how to utilize that information to fix my problem.
anyway, thanks for your help in advance. looking forward to learning a lot here on this forum.
