Graphics card performance

Hey,

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD6670 1GB GDDR5 card...

It is a great card but gameplay seems to skip quite often (which does look normal seeing as I am playing high settings @1600x900 resolution).

Anyway I wanted to know if I was pushing the card to it's limit so I played Assassin's Creed Revelations on one monitor whilst viewing Task Manager, Core Temp & AMD Vision Engine Control Centre on a second monitor and this is what it read in-game:

Could someone please explain why the activity is only at 80%?
Does this mean I am not getting the best possible perfomance out of the card?

Could it be something to do with the fact that I have a Phenom II X6 using all cores? I think I have heard somewhere that more cores can be worse when it comes to gaming but I haven't a clue...

Thanks

Can you install MSI Afterburner to see what loads are on the gpu? It has a better graph to track the usage. Wit that we can probably help you a bit more.

Also are you tracking your FPS at all? What are you getting when you are experiencing
smooth gameplay?

Hi thanks for the replies

I have installed MSI afterburner and have found that it does seem to report the same as the AMD software. It peaks around 80% but most of the time it isn't even that, it's like around 60-70% most of the time.

I am also now monitoring the frame rate as suggested and found that it is usually anywhere between 30-40 FPS during normal running around where there are a lot of buildings, and 60FPS when there is not much going on so it's smooth.

Yes I am using V-sync to avoid the tearing but I have also tried it off and I am still getting the same FPS whilst running around, although I am getting around 80-90 FPS in quiet areas (as I would expect without V-sync)

Does this info help? I am thinking that maybe it is the limited VRAM that is causing the stutter, and that the GPU isn't reaching 100% because it is the VRAM could process the data even if it were so it is limiting the GPU... if that makes sense.

Does anyone else think that is a possibility too? I would like to know other peoples thoughts on it.

Thanks
