Graphics Card Problems :( HELP!

Hi, i recently bought an Nvidia MSI FX5900 XT card, which the previous owner had flashed with 5950 ultra bios. He lost the floppy which had the original bios on it, and so i downloaded one from www.mvktech.net and successfully flashed it with nvflash.

The monitor posts fine at first, but shows artifacts when the windows logo appears (two lines on the window). Windows then opens windows and is fine visually, but my main problem is, when i install the latest drivers, windows either crashes and reboots in the later stages of installation, or when i boot into windows after successfully installing the drivers there's a blank screen like the computers been turned off and the monitor light flashes. Its not overheating or anything.

What could cause this, is it the bios, or maybe physical damage etc??

Thanks for your help

P.s. i have a Nvidia FX5200 running fine ulternatly.

PC :-
Athlon64 3000+
ABIT KV8 Pro
512MB PC2100 RAM
80GB HD
DVD+RW/R
PNY FX 5200 / MSI FX5900 XT
450 Watt PSU
Zorro Case

Are you sure your 5900 is running at stock speeds? It could be artifacting because it is ocerclocked. The 5900 also needs a molex power connector attached, have you done that?

Yes i had the power connecter attached. Can it be overclocked, as there would be no way of telling as i cannot install drivers to operate the card?

Possibly, you should always get your BIOS updates from a reputable source (i.e Your manufacturer). Try upgradng IOS from your manufacturer and see what happens

How would i do that?

I have taken some pictures of the artifacts.

You can see on the first image the strange lines, and also on the second image as high lighted.
You need to zoom in on the first image to see what i mean (click on it again when enlarged)

Cheers

Hmm

Did it have the artefacts on prior to the bios flash? Why did you want to change it back to a normal 5900XT?

JAN :D

It did have the artifacts when it had the 9050 bios and the bloke i got it off said he had problems with it and could not flash it back and so i flashed it 5900xt when i got it.

Cheers

Hmmm....

That's quite strange. I guess the BIOS you have flashed it with now is not really doing what it should. Have you had a look elsewhere? Try contacting the manufacturer.

Cheers Jan, i'll try, but i heard its a very hard task. You can download the bios through their update software, but i wont be able to get it to work as i can't get the drivers installed?!?!
