Graphics Card Question

I'm having some trouble with a graphics card I bought for my computer. My computer is gateway Model Number DX4860-UB33P if that information helps.

I purchased:

-Thermaltake TR2 600W Powersupply
-XFX Radeon HD 6770 PCI Express 2.1 1 GB GDDR5

I was able to install both correctly but for some reason the graphics card isn't being detected so I kind of need some help on pinpointing what the problem might be.

Some added information:
I have an old monitor so I had to also buy an adapter to attempt to connect it to the graphics card but it does not seem to work (monitor doesn't turn on). However, I can connect it to the main outlet.

Did you connect the 6 pin pci express power connector from the power supply to the video card?
 
does it still display with the original GPU? If it is integrated and still displays, then you may need to set the BIOS to use PCIe graphics as the primary adapter.
 
If the gpu fan came attached to the card already then I would imagine there is an issue with the video card. Can you link us to the actual card you bought?
 
Is the card firmly in the slot? Because in the past i've had no monitor picture from the card being loose or not fully connected to the pci-e slot. Also make sure your monitor's plug is in the correct slot(vga, dvi, hdmi, etc) on the video card.

It actually does. I have an integrated Graphics Card called Intel Graphics Family 2000

Triple Checked it and its firmly inside. When I connect my monitor to the GPU, the screen doesnt turn on as if it doesnt read it. When I connect it to the regular slot on the tower it turns on.
 
Was a little bit difficult finding the options through the BIOS, but I did it and it worked! The fan spins now and my computer finally detects the graphics card. Now I just need to install the drivers and hope that gives me no problems.

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it :o. Now, I wont have to play my upcoming game on Low Settings ^^
