Graphics Card Usage

I have a question about using a graphics card. I simply need to know if I install a new graphics card in my computer but I still plug my monitor into the hdmi outlet coming from my motherboard, will I still be harnessing the power of my graphics card or do I need to use one of the outputs coming from the graphics card itself.

You must use one of the outputs on the graphics card.

Before you buy or install a graphics card, what graphics card will you be using, and what power supply do you currently have? A dedicated graphics card will generally draw much more power than integrated graphics, which could cause problems, anywhere from system instability to complete failure

Thank you

I appreciate the feedback. As far as the power supply goes I just installed a 680w and I'm only upgrading from a 512mb graphics card to a 1gb card so I'm pretty sure my system will have no problem with the new hardware. Thank you again.
