I have a dell optiplex gx620 and i have installed a new nvidia 240 gts card but when I turn on the computer the graphics card fan doesn't turn on so am lead to believe it is not on what am I missing or doing wrong?

are you sure its a GTS 250? and if it is have you plugged in the aux power connections at the end of the card?
Did you get a better PSU to power that card? The stock PSU in those machines don't cut it.

I have run graphics cards on underpowered psus many times with no problems

I thought the wattage difference was really enough to warrant a new power supply on the specs its said recommended "300" watts so I thought it would work I honestly don't think think it is the wattage because it should at least power on.
Can you link the exact card you bought?

Actuelly its kinda conflicting some websites say 300 watts some say 250 some say 450! I dont know But please tell me if I am not plugging a internal cable in or something because thats what i thought was wrong.

That card has a 6 pin power connector that needs to be plugged in.
Yeah you need to plug in the needed 6-pin power cable to the GPU.

Not the cheap OEM psu's anyway. You'll need something like this.

As long as you have a standard tower that has an ATX power supply already in it then yes it will work.

Well since it's a Dell card it might be fine with that PSU. You just need the right connectors.
