My friend is buying a low end dell, but he wants to run games (not on the integrated graphics). Please tell me a good card for under £50 (AGP). I was looking at the ati radeon 9250 256mb etc. but couldnt decide as i dont have experience with ati. Thanks in advance

Which "low end" dell does he want? Is it one that might actually have a PCI-Express slot? If all you're going to get is a 92XX, you'd about be better off to just stick with onboard :P

I paid £50 for my Club 3D Radeon 9600 (256Mb)

Its not the best obviusly but its hasnt let me down yet.

It plays games like Doom 3 ,Half life 2 ,Prey.

Graphics are very good imo and is AGP 8X

Well i dont know of any more better cards but please answer the questions thats been asked like...

Well does it have a PCI-Express slot?

Also your friend may have to get a new Psu aswell as a new Graphics card.

I had too.

Ok, so I looked on ebuyer.com (which I apparently cannot navigate in affectively since im so used to newegg) and it seems like for about £50 you can't get much of a decent card in agp...For £70 you can get a 7600gs and for £21 you can get a 6200.

he edited his original post, it has to be an AGP card.

Ah, cool. Though it still seems odd. I guess this isn't a new low-end Dell if it has AGP?

Anyway, the upper Radeon 9X00 series would probably one of the best bets as others mentioned. Or even the Radeon 8500. I still got mine and it's still a decent performer.
