Graphics cards can't live with them and can't get the things to work

Hi all, as is the way with computers (nothing is as simple as it tells you on the box). I recently purchased an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT and guess what I am having problems installing the thing into my system; I have been reliably informed that it would work.
My system setup is:
Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz 4MB L2 Cache
MOBO ASUS P5V-VM SE DH
1 processor - LGA775 Socket
4 memory - DIMM 240-pin
1 PCI Express x16
1 PCI Express x1
2 PCI
4 Gig Ram
600 Watt CPU
When I install the card the system will not even boot, I have updated the BIOS and I have made sure that the power lead is in the card.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

This might be obvious, but it goes in the PCIe x16 slot (the long one). Have you pushed it all the way down into the slot? There might be a switch or some kind of small lever to use to "catch" it into place, although on my motherboard this catch was self-activated from the force of inserting the card.

Then you plug in the PCIe power cable from the PSU (not sure if it's absolutely necessary, but you should do it anyway). That's pretty much all there is.

What kind of error do you get? What happens when you turn on the power? Did you have any problems before the card?

Hi,

I have locked it in place with the clip and all power cables are in place, when I turn the system on the only thing that happens is the fans kick in and thats it, no post beeps.

I have taken it out and replaced it with the older card and all is good. I am truly at a loss.

Sounds like your power supply isn't up to the task mate. What are the specs of it? Or what's the name or model number?
