graphics ram

guys...do the kind of ram for your graphic card be the same at the kind of ram of your system memory? for ex...a ddr memory must have a ddr graphics card?

No, this doesn't happen with the video cards just mother boards and normal ram, the only thing you have to look for is the slot that your mother board has, which is either a agp or a pci-e

Graphics card RAM and system RAM are completely separate. Also, your video card uses GDDR3. There is no such RAM(yet) as plain DDR3.

the reason i asked this is that i used to have a pentium 3 733mhz with 512 sdram system memory, i bought an ASUS 9550 ddr graphics card 256mb and after playing games like generals...the system hangs and prompts me that there is something wrong with my gpu....

Probably because your system (which is quite old), had an AGP 1x/2x slot, where as the video card was a 4x/8x card.

my motherboard supports 4xvideo cards..it might have been a problem with the power supply,...anyway...im buying a pcie nvidia 7100 512mb,...do you guys have comments for this card?

Looks like a good choice for a video card if you're planning to upgrade your cpu and mobo sometime in the future, but more than likely you don't have an adequate PSU, unless you've replaced it recently. A gpu like that will take a huge load off your cpu and noticeably speed up your system, provided you have the ram to support the extra drivers. I started my current rig 2 years ago with a 900 mhz PIII and the first thing I bought for it was an nvidia geforce 6400.

thanks burgerbob, will my specs be enough to support the pcie? by the way my specs are Asus k8v-vm mobo, amd sempron 3000+ 64-bit socket 754 palermo, 1.25gb hynix ram ddr400, 1gb+256mb, a pcie slot that supports 16x pcie, and psu 480w
