Great, nearly destructive story.......

I got really bored yesterday so I took apart an old light used for the original Gameboy Advance. I eventually got to the circuit board and the positive and negative leads. I noticed it kinda looked like one of those cold cathode lights so I wanted to see if I could somehow hook it up to my compy......

I knew my Zalman fan came with some cabling that allowed either a full 12v verse some lower voltage, so I busted out my new multimeter that I got for my birthday. I went in to go test it, making sure i got the right lead to the right probe, and found, for some reason, that the whole computer seemed to run faster when ever I touched them....... Eventually, the whole computer just up and turned off on me and nearly scared the shit outa me....... Before I broke out another PSU, I found that my compy was ok, so, I decided, (For the life of me, I don't know why.....) to try again to see if I could find the voltage, as I had thought the computer turned off due to the fact that I may have accidentally shorted it.

Upon trying again, the computer still seemed to run faster when I tried to test it and I wasn't getting any reading. I went to go check if I was still on DC when it dawned on me that I had the probe on the amperage socket. (I'm guessing someone could tell me the dangers of that........)

So, back to the light, I found one of the power-socket-thingys for the fan was 5.125v so I went and rigged up the light to it.....

All in the name of boredom.......... Curiosity sure can be destructive..........

You know you took an awfully big risk for something worth so little, just go out and burn these cold cathode tubes already.

There was a few snap, crackle and pops at one point..........

Sadly, about ten minutes after I posted this, the wires came out of the circuit board and I tried soldering the wires back and ended up burning the plastic on to the circuit board and ended up throwing out the whole thing after that........
 
Heh, I was messing with some LEDs, hooking them up the the molex connectors. I think they were rated for 3v usage, and I was using the 5v ends on the molex connector... most of them worked ok. The red ones just flashed and died, and when I got to testing the orange ones, it lit up, started hissing, and the LED literally exploded, reseting my computer.
