but google has thousands of servers, with up to like 8 drives each

so thats tens of thousands of dollars a year
 
That's true, all the little savings eventually add up but what about the cost of the drive?

I can't compare same size drives on the WDC site but a 750GB RE2 is showing $199, a 1TB RE2 is $299. Even with the size difference there must be a good amount of premium on that.
