this is driving me insane not long ago i bought a nvidia 7600gs agp and it started crashing on me. i found out that it was overheating and i was advised on a forum to put new themos paste on the cpu. well i did this and for about a month its been working fine and staying at a good constant temp level. but now its started it again. its really weird what it does it will be sitting at 45degrees c and then suddenly the fan will start making loads of noise and the temp shoots up and it crashes. and another weird thing is sometimes if i give the case a sharp tap the noise will die and it will setle out again.

im realy confused and frustrated now does anyone know what is wrong with it??

Sounds like the fan is going stiff. you can either oil the bearing (peel back the sticker in the center of the fan/front of the motor), or replace the fan entirely.
