GS vs. an x850 xt pe (sort of)

I'm looking to get a new card and I was focused on getting an XFX 6800GS, which has slightly better speeds than a normal GS. I found an X800 GTO2, which are easily overclockable to the x850xt PE status for not too much either. I realized after looking at some charts that the x850xt pe still only supports Pixel Shader 2.0, but it seems that it is a superior card minus that drawback. Any ideas on which to get? Also, the GS allows me to go SLI if I want to in the future. Any ideas?

Thanks:)

Budget? If it´s something near 300$ get 7800GT.... othervise I don´t really know... if you want 3.0 pixel shader (whitch I would choose) go with GS...cause more games in future will use 3.0 PS... It gives something you can call performance boost in places that use PS 3.0...

ATI runs with higher clocks...And probably will give you higher points in 3DMark.. Don´t really know.. It´s up to you...

Nah, I've thought about a 7800GT, but it's too expensive as of now. Looking for something around 200. Maybe a 6800 GT.

Ya I wouldn't really concentrate on SLi-ing beacause for anothe card you can just buy a nice single card and there won't be a difference.

If your sure that the GTO2 is unlockable, that would be better I think.

I know it would perform better, but would it be a good idea to invest in a card with PixelShader 2 and not 3?

Well I don't have to have it, but I just thought a card would be more futureproof with PS3, as I don't want to have to buy a new card in the near future after this.

You mean overclockable to 540/590...

Bump. Any ideas?
1 day bump? You've been around long enough :P

PS3.0 doesnt really add all thaaaaat much you know... for the most part it give you speed optimizations rather than IQ changes :)

Again X850XT PE is more futureproof IMO expecially in terms of resale value I'd say

Between the 68GS and the X850XT PE -- not a X800GT0², id get the X850XT PE hands down

The GTO2 can be flashed so it has 16 pipes, and then overclocked to x850xtpe speeds, so its like having an x850XT PE.

Im aware of that however lets not forget that we can also OC the X850XT PE.

What does that have anything to do with it? the GTO2 has the same core as the X850XT PE, and has everything it has, the only way the GTO2 wouldn't be able to OC as much as the X850XT PE can, has to do with the cooling, which from what i've seen i guess would go to the X850XT PE, but new coolings systems aren't to much.

the GTO's and the GS'es are the crappy chips, the ones that didnt pass the quality control to become XT PE's or GT's. so you probley cant overclock them as high

well, after removing the heatsink off of my GPU it said GST, not GT or GS, but GST, so i think its a new chip, but i might be wrong
